CHAPTER FIVE

“So, what exactly is this? This thing you two have got going on?” Aurora asked. She snapped her lighter shut after finishing lighting one of the blunts she’d rolled. All three of them were nude and dried off, laying together in the bed and the cool air of her apartment after finishing the shower threesome and the post-sex washing.

Alex looked at Aurora, then at Brianna.

He was curious to hear her response.

She looked back at him. “We are in a relationship,” she said. “We’re boyfriend and girlfriend. Technically, it’s an open relationship that we’re still exploring the bounds of. It’s definitely not a fling, and it’s not a human toy situation,” she added firmly.

He thought about their previous conversation in the car. Well, he’d really just been listening to the conversation. “We’re still figuring it all out, though,” Brianna continued, “we’re exploring each other. Anything to add?”

She looked at him. He shook his head. “Not really, that sounds right to me.”

“Hmm,” Aurora said, and took several drags on the blunt, then passed it to Brianna, who did the same. “That’s good. You never did too well with the boy and girl toys, Bri.”

Brianna sighed and passed it to Alex, who took a few puffs himself.

“What, am I wrong?” she asked.

Brianna just sighed again. “No, it’s just...maybe something I don’t want to talk about? And besides, I didn’t have that many.”

“Yeah, you rarely indulged,” Aurora agreed.

“You should just get used to this, Aurora being a bitch.” Brianna remarked to Alex.

Aurora laughed. “Yeah, you’ll have to get used to that.”

“Anyway,” Brianna continued, “for the sake of transparency, yes, I did occasionally indulge in having a, you know...toy. Boytoy, girltoy, a human that was submissive to me. It’s just kind of a thing that a lot of paranormals do. And honestly a lot of humans do it too. To some paranormals, or even to each other. Obviously not all of it is on the level, but for the most part it is. No one was being forced or coerced or taken advantage of when I was doing it, or, as far as I knew, when anyone else was. It was all voluntary. I mean sometimes there was some kind of transaction going on, but for the most part, it was just submissive people wanting to be dominated at every level: socially, sexually, you know, in every little way.”

“I believe you, Brianna,” Alex said.

She looked at him, then took a breath and let it out slowly. “Sorry, I’m just feeling defensive because I always felt kind of weird about it. It was something I never fully figured out, I think. It’s why I stopped doing it and just dated people. It’s also one of the reasons why I just want to date you and have sex with my friends on the side together, Alex.”

“I’m sorry, Brianna, I didn’t know you were this messed up about it. I wasn’t really trying to upset you,” Aurora said quietly.

“Lucky for you, I’m nice,” Brianna replied. “So, all is forgiven.
